In the 80s, artists Olivier Mosset and Steven Parrino shared the same studio in Brooklyn, and «signed» together works of which it is difficult to say who created them. We choose to present this historical complicity, but here the artists are clearly recognizable. The six black monochromes of Mosset and their minimal rigor come to life and vibrate in contact with the misshaped canvas of Parrino. They seem to be eachother counterpart in a shared radicalism. Emmanuel Saulnier and Noémie Goudal show a more animated and romantic vision of the darkness. «Round Midnight» by Emmanuel Saulnier is a new set of works originally designed for the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The artist pays tribute to the eponymous jazz standard composed by Thelonious Monk. In reference to the pianist’s famous improvisational style, the sculpture escapes its material constraints and as a free and spontaneous gesture, becomes a spatial drawing.
In correspondence, Noémie Goudal’s poetical images offer an equally sculptural and performative reality. Beyond their apparent darkness, the photographs of Southern Light Stations reflect the permanent fascination of men confronted with the celestial vault and its representations. Goudal builds (onsite) full scale installations made of paper, mirrors or wood. Suspended in high view points, molten in the sky, the structures explore the mysterious nature of the universe space.
