For this new edition of Art Brussels, Les filles du calvaire presents a solo show by the young French artist Jérémie Cosimi.
Jérémie Cosimi is a multidisciplinary and self-taught artist based in Marseille. His paintings and drawings confront ancestrality and contemporaneity, revealing the timelessness of what connects them. Working from his own staged shots or collected images, the artist imagines a mythology made of icons and reinvented pagan rites, deeply rooted in the Mediterranean culture.
For Art Brussels, Jérémie Cosimi brings the statues to life with «The Odysseys», an installation that focuses on the way the past interacts or could have interacted with the present. A testimony of a time at the edge of reality and fiction, past and present. A testimony using earth tones, sun, and stones. Standing on pedestals, he stages his models, always his friends, as figures of his contemporary mythologies. These portraits evolve within a decor filled with vases and miniatures, vestiges of the contemporary with references to Roman frescoes, portraits of fayum and other millennial artefacts.
