Exhibition from October 24th to November 30th, 2024
For each new subject he approaches, Jean-Christian Bourcart recounts fragments of contemporary world stories, developing a writing that blends investigation, personal experience, and formal invention to varying degrees.
Jean-Christian Bourcart is donating his entire archives to the Nicéphore Niépce Museum in Chalon-sur-Saône, which will dedicate a major exhibition to him this autumn. This institutional retrospective will be accompanied by a publication from EXB Editions, a book composed of facsimiles of the artist's research notebooks, to which the gallery exhibition will be dedicated. The works, drawn from a collection of 48 notebooks created since his arrival in New York in 1998, constitute a typological atlas allowing entry into Jean-Christian Bourcart's complex and paradoxical visual universe, situating the series within the broader context of his overall production.
His work has been exhibited at the Louvre-Lens Museum, the National Galleries of the Jeu de Paume, the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, Visa pour l'Image, the Museum für Photographie Braunschweig, and the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn.
Exhibition included in the Photo Days 2024 itinerary.
