In order to promote the French art scene, the Terrot Group and the Institut français have launched a call for applications for the creation of a work on the façade of the future headquarters of the Institut français at 40-42 rue de la Folie-Regnault in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. After a rigorous selection process, they are pleased to announce the choice of the artistic project "Hedera" by Clara Rivault.
Born in 1991, Clara Rivault lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and has a Master's degree from La Cambre in Brussels. With a varied academic background, she explores a variety of complex traditional techniques related to the arts of fire such as bronze, blown glass and ceramics. Her appetite for learning new techniques using various mediums quickly led her to participate in numerous residencies, the next of which is planned for the Villa Medici in November 2023. An active member of POUSH Manifesto, she recently participated in 100% L'EXPO at the Grande Halle de la Villette dedicated to the young French scene.
Today, the artist specializes in the art of stained glass and devotes herself to this long creative process, initiated by photographic samples. The careful observation of organic materials and living tissues, nourish a palette of shapes and textures that the artist infuses into the glass, giving them a sculptural dimension.
"Hedera" embodies cultural richness, diversity, as well as international links and encounters. These are at the heart of this proposal at the crossroads between architecture, contemporary art and crafts.
Each of the unique blown glass elements will be reworked in hand-shaped molds.
Made in collaboration with Vitrail France, founded by the artist's grandfather, the crystalline modules positioned in front of the building's windows will diffuse light inside the offices.
The satin stainless steel frame will form the skeleton of the work that will evolve along the structure of the building. The artist is keen to reduce the environmental impact of his work as much as possible, using noble and recyclable materials and favoring short circuits.
This work was chosen for the elegant and gentle way in which it animates the initial rectilinear and monochrome façade of the building and fits into the public space. Its organic deployment recalls the tree structure of the French cultural network abroad and the partnerships of the French Institute with numerous institutions and personalities.
With its references to Art Nouveau in particular, this project is a fine illustration of the alliance between heritage and contemporary creation. It highlights the artistic crafts, which are also the subject of a special support plan announced by the Minister of Culture last May.
Finally, a reminder of the work inside the building will allow continuity between the work on the façade and the reception hall.
