Léo Fourdrinier — Cabinet d’art extra-terrestre, CNES, Paris, France

28.03 — 30.03.2025

From March 28 to 30, 2025, the Extra-Terrestrial Art Cabinet, open at 40 Rue de Richelieu in Paris, offers a meditation on art beyond the conventional framework of Earth, exploring the unthought dimensions of Space.

The works gathered in the Extra-Terrestrial Art Cabinet by the Observatoire de l’Espace invite contemplation of art beyond Earth’s established boundaries, delving into the uncharted realm of Space. From one room to the next, visitors encounter the experiments and reflections of artists who have freed themselves from the constraints that Earth imposes on artistic creation, engaging instead in interaction—or at least dialogue—with the spatial environment.

Alain Bublex and Victoire Thierrée put their photographic and sculptural practices to the test against the elements of Space, such as weightlessness and atmospheric pressure changes induced by altitude. Mary Sue, for her part, becomes the direct representative of an extra-terrestrial artistic process. Juliette Green and Patrick Corillon explore the challenges of language in expressing emotions experienced in Space. Nicolas Darrot, Loïc Pantaly, and Stéphane Thidet give form to the imperceptible movements captured or adopted by instruments operating in Space. Léo Fourdrinier, Michel Gouéry, and Hippolyte Hentgen invite encounters with the extra-terrestrial. Clément Fourment and Rob Miles engage in a dialogue on the influence of weightlessness on bodies and objects, while Benoît Pype and Nathalie Talec project themselves into Space to study its habitability and the desires underlying this aspiration.

The Observatoire de l’Espace of CNES invites visitors to immerse themselves in this artistic society of Space, which challenges our habits, disrupts our representations of the cosmos, yet never strays into a purely imaginary realm.

Some of the works exhibited are part of the contemporary art collection of the Observatoire de l’Espace of CNES, deposited at Les Abattoirs, Musée – FRAC Occitanie Toulouse.
